ECA Selects New President and Leadership Team

On July 28, 2008, ECA received the tragic news of the loss of our President, Carrie Ehlers. During this difficult period, the ECA Board of Directors and staff have continued to manage the association's business and have moved forward with our 2008-2009 objectives.

To that end, a special meeting of the Board of Directors was called on Wednesday, August 6th to address the organization's succession plan. During the meeting, the Board of Directors unanimously approved the plan as outlined in the association's by-laws. First Vice President Stuart Hyden, who had been serving as Interim President, assumed the President's position and will serve out Carrie's unfulfilled term. Lance Adams, Second Vice President, assumed the position of First Vice President. Following this meeting, and through special elections, the intentions of the Board were made clear and Rick Gilbert, a current Board member and Chair of the Technology Committee, was elected Second Vice President. The Board of Directors will fill the open Director position created by Carrie's untimely passing in early fall.

Following the vote on August 6th, Mr. Hyden addressed the Board; "I want to thank each of you for your support as I assume the balance of Carrie's term. I understand it will be difficult for us to move forward without Carrie, both as a Board and as a friend. Despite our loss, I do know the one thing Carrie would not want us to do is to flounder and not stay united in our resolve to move our organization forward to new heights and new prosperity."

With ECA's new leadership team in place, the group is moving in a positive direction and looking forward to ECA Marketplace 2009, to be held from April 14-16 in Chicago, IL. However, we also recognize the loss of Carrie and appreciate all of the support that the association and Carrie's family have received. The generous support from members of the ECA, MCAA, NTLA, XLA, AEMCA, Courier Magazine, and Courier Times should also be recognized. The family has requested that donations be sent to the Education Fund for John and Carrie's two daughters, Amanda (14) and Michelle (17). Contributions may be mailed to: Wells Fargo Bank, 131 W Layton Avenue, Suite 100, Milwaukee, WI 53207. The banking contact is: Jessica Avery (414-224-4840, or Jessica.r.avery@welsfarg.com). Checks should be made out to: "Carrie Ehlers Benefit Memorial Fund". The fund has been set up solely to address the educational needs of Michelle and Amanda.

John Ehlers and Clyde Mueller, Carrie's father, wish to extend their heartfelt thanks regarding the outpouring of support that they have received from the delivery industry community, and John feels even more compelled to work hard to carry on Carrie's legacy of 'hard work equals success'.
